About The Blog
I unexpectedly became a widow at 33. My husband and I spent much of our 10 years together travelling the world. This blog was originally for family and friends to follow our infrequent adventures in globe-trotting. But with the recent turn of events, it has become a way to share my walk through this process. There are moments of grief, but also moments of light. Eventually, I will write the rest of our travel stories, and someday I will travel again myself. But for now, it is a form of therapy, and a way to maybe help others put their feelings into words. Thank you for following. ~Katie

“How Are You Okay?”
I get this one a lot too. “How are you okay?” or “How are you even standing?”. The problem is that we have this idea in our heads of what this should look like. And I think for some, I just … Continue reading

Friends in Low Places
Heads up: Garth isn’t going to be happy with where this is going. When I say there is an army surrounding me, I mean an army. Hundreds upon hundreds. College friends, high school friends, neighbors, his work friends, my work … Continue reading

“I Can’t Even Imagine”
“I can’t even imagine what you’re going through.” Besides “my thoughts and prayers are with you”, this is the second most common reaction to the news of my 34-year-old husband’s unexpected death. Both are comments I’ve said myself, many times, … Continue reading

The Micro-Manager of Preparation
Yes, that is my official title for myself: The Micro-Manager of Preparation. I very much dislike it. So take the following evidence and try to formulate an alternate title to describe my packing behaviors. To Do List To Prepare to … Continue reading
